Services I Offer

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a personal opportunity to receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. Individual counseling can help one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes, etc.

Individual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Counseling allows individuals to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

Individual counseling is counseling focused on the individual's immediate or near future concerns. Individual counseling may encompass career counseling and planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with problems at a job before they become big. Individual counseling is a one-on-one discussion between the counselor and the client, who is the person seeking treatment, help you “re-frame” your reactions and provide you with valuable tools to cope with life’s obstacles.

Couples Therapy

Have tensions mounted in your relationship? Has communication turned into fighting or withdrawal? Does the relationship feel like way too much work–and you don’t see evidence this is going to change? Does it seem like you can’t stop the cycle of anger, blame, arguments and withdrawal? Is your relationship starving for affection, romance or passion? Are you wishing to deepen the relationship, the closeness and the intimacy that once made your relationship so special?

When any of these occur, it’s time to make some important changes in your relationship. A change where the two of you are able to effectively communicate, work through conflicts in a skilled way and be able to be genuinely affectionate with each other.

Dr. Malone will foster an environment where you feel listened to, valued and empathized with. A relationship where you are able to talk through conflicts, disagreements, and hurt feelings. A relationship that values each partners’ happiness and the well-being of the relationship.

Christian Counseling

Life is a journey which, at times, can become difficult and confusing. Dr. Malone believes that each person is gifted for a vital role in this journey, but these gifts are sometimes unrealized because of emotional hurts and scars. Christian counseling with Dr. Malone is intended to help restore hope, encourage personal growth, heal emotional wounds, and strengthen one’s faith in God.

Psychoeducational and Psychological Assessment

Psychological testing may sound intimidating, but it's designed to help you. Psychologists use tests and other assessment tools to measure and observe a client’s behavior to arrive at a diagnosis and guide treatment.

Psychologists administer tests and assessments for a wide variety of reasons. Children who are experiencing difficulty in school, for example, may undergo aptitude testing or tests for learning disabilities. Persons seeking medical treatment (e.g., bariatric bypass surgery or other surgeries) are often referred for a psychological evaluation to determine readiness for surgery.

If a person is having problems at work or school or in personal relationships, tests can help a psychologist understand whether he or she might have issues with anger management or interpersonal skills, or certain personality traits that contribute to the problem. Other tests evaluate whether clients are experiencing emotional disorders such as anxiety or depression.

The underlying cause of a person's problems isn't always clear. For example, if a child is having trouble in school, does he or she have a reading problem such as dyslexia? An attention problem such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Difficulty with impulse control? Psychological tests and assessments allow a psychologist to understand the nature of the problem, and to figure out the best way to address it.
